Are UFOs and aliens spiritual beings? Do they belong in a book about LA Spirituality? Plenty of people in the Southland believe they do. More Angelenos than you might imagine have interacted with entities from other planets who amazed, instructed, and enlightened them.
Three areas in Greater LA report heightened UFO activity:Topanga Canyon and the Santa Monica mountains, the desert around Joshua Tree, and Catalina Island.
In the early 1990s in Topanga, a gigantic wave of hundreds of UFO sightings occurred; all reported by a cross section of reputable people. The area had been designated a “flap area” since 1947, that is, an area with a disproportionate number of UFO reports. People described experiencing strange lights, ships, missing time periods, and actual encounters with and abductions by aliens.
