Venice and Spiritual LA

meditation-venice-spiritualVenice Beach has long attracted artists and writers, the counterculture, and spiritual seekers of all kinds.  Enjoy the bohemian vibe while it lasts, as Venice is rapidly gentrifying due to the arrival of Google and Snapchat. Here are some examples of Spiritual LA in Venice:

  • The Beat Generation (Beatniks) explored Zen Buddhism amongst other paths and frequented the Venice West Café on Dudley and the Gas House on Ocean Front Walk in the 50s
  • Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Doors, considered by many a rock shaman, lived in Venice for two years.
  • Aimee Semple McPherson’s controversial disappearance (see page xxx) occurred here when she walked into the water at Venice Beach.
  • Most days you can walk along the Boardwalk and receive a reading from one of the many Tarot card readers, astrologers, etc.
  • The annual Festival of the Chariots is held here in August during which time the Hare Krishnas feed thousands of people for free
  • The Mystic Journey Bookstore offers talks, workshops and readers
  • Full Circle Venice:

A spiritual community that focused on millennials and their search for individual enlightenment and group consciousness, an updated version of their parents’ New Age. Former teen-heartthrob, actor Andrew Keegan and his crew attracted stylish young people and the Burning Man crowd. The full schedule of events included workshops, group meditations, music, and classes. Full Circle offered weekly Activ888 ceremony on Sundays at 10 am until they closed in 2018.
