It would be easy to make fun of the Aetherius Society if one were so inclined. This international spiritual organization is “dedicated to spreading and acting upon the teachings of advanced extra terrestrials.” Its motto is “Co-operating with Gods from Space.”
But are you so inclined to mock when you learn that the most important teaching of the Aetherians is selfless service to others? That they accept and honor every other religion’s beliefs and promote compassion and working for a better world?
The American Headquarters of the Aetherius Society is located on a quiet, residential, garden-like street in Hollywood. Sharing leadership with the Headquarters in London, they have outposts in eleven countries with membership numbering in the thousands.
The founder, Dr. George King, lived in LA and developed the Society and its mission from the mid-1950s until his death in 1997. Previously, King had been practicing yoga for 8-10 hours a day when he was contacted by an ET named Aetherius hailing from Venus, which is where Buddha and Jesus also reside. Dr. King continued to communicate with ET’s for over 40 years and taught that ET’s are compassionate and here to help us create a better world.
The Society shares belief in many tenets of the newer religions especially Theosophy: that there is One Truth in many forms, the power of prayer, yoga, and kundalini, the laws of karma, the presence of Ascended Masters, and that spiritual and psychic powers are available for anyone to develop. In fact, Dr. King highly recommended reading Autobiography of a Yogi.
Another cool thing they believe is that mountains are holy and hence lead monthly pilgrimages to Mount Baldy from May to October. A yearly World Peace Pilgrimage is celebrated on Mount Baldy in cooperation with other religions. Check it out here: http://www.worldpeacepilgrimage.com/
It all seemed strange to me at first, I must admit; but when I visited everybody appeared completely normal. Pat, who answered all our questions, looked and acted like a retired schoolteacher. The sincerity of the Aetherians and their desire to be of service is undeniable. Anyone working to promote more compassion in the world has my vote.
