Having had similar experiences with sever mentally ill individuals, as well as other who were experiencing a spiritual awaking. Psychosis, from my experience, is always accompanied by a great deal of fear and paranoia. Where a person is experiencing a major spiritual breakthrough or "initiation" , he or she may be overwhelmed, but from fear. More likely, he/she will be in a highly blissful state.

In any case, I appreciate you addressing the issue. Thank for your contribution in furthering a sane approach to spiritual psychotherapy.
